Range Search

There are many features to consider when choosing a range. Listed below are a few features that I feel are worth noting.

BTU Rating - Manufacturer's are starting to equip their higher end models with high output burners. High BTU burners supply higher heat. If you do a lot of cooking you'll appreciate the high heat for wok cooking, stir frying, rapid heating of large pots, etc... While it's great to have plenty of heat for different meals it's also just as important to have a range that can handle very low heat for simmering. Look for ranges that offer simmer low enough for delicate sauces and chocolates.

Oven - A good oven heats evenly and is spacious. Electric ovens tend to heat more evenly than gas ovens. Consider a convection oven if you bake often. Convection ovens use a fan to help circulate heat to eliminate hot spots and speed up baking. Manufactures are also starting to incorporate a 2nd oven allowing you to bake different meals at different temperatures at the same time. Great for the holidays or when entertaining.

Dimensions - Not a big factor when remodeling a kitchen but if you're replacing, make sure you know what size. Most ranges are a standard 30" wide. Also take note if you have a freestanding, slide-in, or drop-in range, last but not least make sure you know the fuel type, gas, electric or duel fuel.
